The Happiest Birthday

A message from our Residential Care Director, Deborah:

I met Julia when she was 4-years-old. She was a student at the special education school I used to teach at before starting Eternal Anchor. After starting Eternal Anchor, I lost touch with Julia. Last July, I received a call from Child Protective Services. They had a 16-year-old girl with Down syndrome that had been sold as a child bride. She was at the police station needing immediate placing in a home. That day I was reunited with Julia. My heart is broken in light of this unimaginable trauma to a precious girl I love, but it’s a joy to be part of the next chapter of her life, now safe and happy in a loving home.

Today we celebrated Julia’s 17th birthday in a quinceañera style. Traditionally this party is to celebrate girls becoming women. Julia’s party was a celebration of her regaining her youth, her innocence, and her freedom. We are honored to have her in our home and to share our lives with her. To see her thrive in a loving environment where she feels safe to be a teenager again enriches my life. It’s a blessing to share my life with her. Happy 17th birthday to our sweet Julia!

This month we took five children out of a government shelter and brought them home. Join us in welcoming Aaron, Isaac, Chuy, Angel, and Josué! These precious boys are now receiving the loving care and attention they deserve. We look forward to watching them grow and reach their God-given potential with us.

On the last day of the month, we had the privilege of celebrating Children’s Day with all of the students in our school. The kids had a blast playing games, doing art projects, dancing, eating hot dogs, getting their faces painted, and jumping in the bouncy house.
