Have you ever wanted to volunteer but worried that you didn’t have the time? Are you unable to take a lengthy career break but want to dedicate your time and expertise to producing positive change in another community? Through Eternal Anchor’s annual Love Extended program you can take a break from work or school, help make a life–changing difference, and experience another country and culture all in the span of a week. And did we mention you’ll have lots of fun, too?
Our Love Extended program brings physical and occupational therapists, translators, and other volunteers to the San Quintin Valley to work side-by-side with Eternal Anchor’s staff. During Love Extended, this team teaches new therapy ideas and collaborates with Eternal Anchor staff on program development to help meet community needs. It is a great opportunity for volunteers to support and learn about the programs and services Eternal Anchor offers to individuals and families and much more. This year, we are especially looking for those with experience working with the visually impaired, garden therapy, or horse therapy, and teachers. We’ll also be hosting a community training event for educators, specialists, parents, and others who live or work with those who are disabled.
This year’s program is scheduled for July 22-30. The participation fee includes round-trip transportation from San Diego, safe and comfortable accommodations at Eternal Anchor’s Visitor Center, transportation throughout the week, two meals a day, our annual Love Extended pool party, and all program materials.
“Whether you’re a physical or occupational therapist, a translator, or someone who wants to help in whatever capacity they can, we would love to have you join us for an unforgettable week,” said Erin Cottos, Eternal Anchor’s staff volunteer physical therapist, and who – along with Leila Xanat Gómez, director of Community Development – coordinates the Love Extended program. When is a piece of PVC pipe more than a mere pipe? When it’s in the hands of Eternal Anchor’s Community Development team, which recently built and delivered two new standers that will help the children who received them work on their standing for the very first time! Both standers were built from scratch using wood, buckets, sponge, and vinyl. These standers are also custom-made to the specific needs of each child, are easily adjusted to grow with the children as needed, and will easily fit in the home. Every member of the Community Development team helped with the building and sewing of these standers, which are also painted in bright colors to be more appealing to the children.

Thank you to our donors, who have already contributed $10,150 to our matching grant challenge! With the match, this means that we have already raised $20,300 for Eternal Anchor’s school. If we are successful in raising a total of $75,000 – which, along with the matching grant, will give our education program $150,000 – that will be enough to operate the school for an entire year!
We invite you to consider making a gift of any size to this campaign. Even the smallest amount will make a big difference for the students and their families who experience the power and promise of hope in and through our school.
